We’re on the final stretch to submit the next major version of WordPress for iOS, version 2.8. As you probably already know by now, the main features are Localization, Stats, and a Quick Photo function – all of which still needs more testing to make sure it’s ready for the masses.

Please spend the next few days using the app as much as possible, and test every bit of it – also for translations. So far the app is translated to Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Swedish, and Bosnian. We’d also very much like to have French, German, Dutch, and any other language you natively speak in there! For translations, we’re using what we call GlotPress which makes it really easy to collaborate on translating the strings.

Register as a translator and/or request your language

Thanks guys. Let’s make this release the best one yet!

A new WordPress for iOS is coming… and we need your help testing :)

Please post your feedback here, or email us at The beta features are not secret, but it’s harder to keep track of feedback if it’s only posted on Twitter or other blogs. Thanks!

    What’s new

Besides crash and bug fixes, the highlights for 2.8 are:

    • Quick Photo button: only available on iPhone for now.
    • Stats!
    • Localization: the app is partially translated to Spanish, Italian, and Japanese. We still need to set up a translation project, but if you are interested in translating the app let us know.

Hi, Is there a known issue with stats? I’ve always had it configured correctly and it shows when I go to wp-admin on the desktop but the tab is blank in the app.

Yes, stats is broken for self-hosted blogs in the beta. We will release a second beta for you soon that will get stats going again.

Try the WordPress for iOS 2.7 Beta!

Howdy, beta testers! We are almost ready to release 2.7 and we need your help testing it.

We fixed a really long list of issues on this one, and also rebuilt some of the most problematic parts of the app so we can have a solid foundation to build on. We’ve also added an improved post editor, pull-to-refresh and lots of other little goodies.

The new version has added a much better way to store and manage data. Once you install the app, all your blogs, local drafts (and the media on those local drafts) should be ‘migrated’ to the new data storage. Please let us know if something is missing.

    How to install

If you have iOS 4.0 or newer, you can visit from your device and it will install directly

Otherwise, you can download WordPress-2.7-beta1.ipa, drag it to iTunes and Sync.

You’ll notice a feedback bar at the top of the app, so feel free to tap that to give us feedback as you are testing the new version.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of communication lately. Things got hectic over the holidays and we have been focusing on iterating more quickly, preferably every two weeks. We definitely want you to continue to test the builds, we’ve just been focused on getting quick bugfix releases out into the public for the 2.6.x series, and we’re not quite at a point where 2.7 is ready to beta test yet.

Rest assured your help is much appreciated and needed.

If you have any questions or comments please email me chris [at] or hit me up on Twitter: @chrisboyddotnet.

There’s lots of posts here yet no replies? Chris where have you gone :)? You haven’t been answering my emails too! The last version of the app that was released didn’t even get posted here and then today I saw the tweet via the @WordPressiOS account saying there’s almost another update ready to be submitted? Are you no longer needing this team of testers or am I missing something? Just curious as to know whats been happening.

I was wondering the same thing :/

The current version in the AppStore is, sorry to say, almost totally unusable. So much so that I am actualy using safari to review and publish posts.

New update.. nothing from Chris or anything. I just wish we could be told we’re not needed anymore or if we are. I love beta testing things.

Image sizes aren’t being … respected. I used a tool to create an image exactly 230x200px, for use as a featured image. When I upload it, the app ignores the image size and makes it the full screensize of the iPad.

Ok, so with the newest update that came out in the AppStore came some new bugs for iPad :/

For a start when saving a draft, all text gets aligned to the left, yes I know it’s how we usually want it but it looks very odd, like it isn’t using each line to it’s fullest. Also if you add an image it does the same and breaks the HTML code up so the image is broken and just appears as a partial link.

On startup, I also get an incorrect username/password error but it still shows as being signed in and allows editing of posts.

So far no issues with the text/page jumping when typing in lower half of articles so all good on that one ;) and I haven’t experienced the name change bug since the update.

    Hope this helps

I CAN reproduce the image problem AND the weird line wrap.

I was using it in LandScape mode, and it ‘overran’ the right margin, so I couldn’t see the image. And once I saved? It ate all my

I’ve just experienced a bug, which I think @nazaroth mentioned. Somehow I was editing a post and it clicked save. It then changed the title and and tags of the other post. Quite annoying and frustrating. I published a post not realizing the title and tags were wrong and had to quickly change the post status to a draft and delete the automatic tweet that goes out. Have you experienced this bug or is there a fix for it yet?
